American Airlines unveils its first premium-heavy retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER
American Airlines has unveiled its first retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER, marking a shift in its cabin configuration strategy. The carrier is officially eliminating its Flagship First class offering on these aircraft. In its place, the airline is installing a premium-heavy layout. This new configuration features the highest number of business and premium economy seats of any aircraft currently operated by a US carrier.
Removing a first-class cabin to expand business and premium economy zones significantly alters the aircraft's center of gravity and floor loading profiles. Engineering teams must manage complex monument relocations and updated seat track integrations to support the higher density of heavy premium seating. This retrofit trend also signals a sustained supply-chain demand for premium seating structures and their associated wiring.
